Car crashes into Chinese restaurant, PSNI looks for witnesses

Police in Northern Ireland have appealed for more information about a car crash in which a baby and two adults were seriously injured.

TWO ADULTS AND a young baby were seriously injured when a car crashed into a Chinese restaurant in Belfast on Friday evening.

Police officers in Northern Ireland are looking for witnesses to the incident, which occurred on the Cliftonville Road at about 6.30pm.

A baby and the woman pushing its pram were hit when the car left the road, mounted the path and careered into the ‘Capital City’ Chinese takeaway restaurant.

They were passing in front of the restaurant at the time.

The driver of the car escaped without any serious injury. There were no passengers in the Renault Megane she was driving, according to police.

Speaking to TheJournal.ie, the PSNI said that those injured in the accident were both passers-by and diners in the restaurant.

The woman, baby and one other adult were taken to the Royal Victoria Hospital but police said that although their injuries were serious, they were not life-threatening.  Two others suffered minor injuries.

The Irish News reports that one of those is a nine-year-old girl who was dining in the restaurant with her family at the time.

Police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision or has any information in relation to this incident to contact them in Tennent Street on 0845 600 8000.
