Man arrested over explosion that 'sent fireball up in the air'

Gardaí, Dublin Fire Brigade and an Army bomb disposal team all attended the scene in the wake of the blast, back in March.

A MAN’S BEEN arrested in connection with an explosion in the Long Lane area of Dublin 8 earlier this year.

The street was closed off overnight after a car exploded at around 11pm on 30 March last.

Gardaí, Dublin Fire Brigade and an Army bomb disposal team all attended the scene.

A man aged in his 20s was detained in Dublin this morning and taken to Kevin Street Station for questioning, gardaí said in a statement this evening.

He’s being held under the provisions of Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.

A TheJournal.ie reader sent us the above video from the scene back in March.

He described it as a “huge explosion”.

“I could see a massive fireball go up in the air over the old Meath Hospital,” he said.

I thought the hospital had a gas leak and so went to see what had happened. It turned out to be a car that I had just walked past.
