‘I wanted something bright and fresh’: How Olivia’s ‘gloomy’ kitchen was transformed in under a month

FROM STORAGE SPACE to appliances to personal style, there are many things to consider when designing a kitchen.

For Olivia Clancy in Ardmore, Co Waterford, having a space that worked for her family of five was her top priority.

“I wanted the kitchen to fulfil all of our needs,” says Olivia. “That includes constant snacking, constant feeding and baking with the boys when they come in in the evenings.”

Getting started

With dark cabinets and countertops, a two-toned splash back and all appliances on display, Olivia’s original kitchen was a far cry from her dream design.

“I wanted to change the dark and gloomy existing kitchen to something bright and fresh,” she says.

Olivia went to Cash & Carry Kitchens with her vision in mind, and within three weeks it had come to life.

“Brian Keating [design consultant] was very eager to get started and help me complete the dream that I had for this home.”

Olivia and Brian then chatted through her wish list for the kitchen in the showroom in Fota, Co Cork, with Brian sharing some simple changes that would make the space feel as bright and airy as possible.

“Within an hour of sitting down with Brian he had a beautiful 3D drawing done of the kitchen and I felt he really understood what I was looking for,” says Olivia. “He really listened to the things that meant a lot to me and my family.

“In the old kitchen there were big units on either side of the window and Brian suggested we remove all of those and take them down to let all of the natural light in… He even gave us bigger space, and I didn’t think that was possible with the kitchen because it’s a small space.”

Choosing her dream design

After looking at her needs and wants for the new space, Olivia opted for the Hampton kitchen in Cotton White.

“I knew that I wanted a white kitchen. Being by the seaside, I wanted something with nice seaside hues to it.”

Brian ordered the kitchen that day for us and three weeks later it was fitted.

‘The best decision’

Like all products from Cash & Carry Kitchens, the Clancys’ new kitchen was handmade in Castlemartyr, East Cork and was delivered and installed by the company’s skilled craftspeople.

Less than a month later, Olivia and her family are ready to make the most of their new kitchen over the summer.

“Overall, I found it to be a very easy and stress-free process. It doesn’t feel like the same house that I walked into a month ago,” says Olivia.

“It was the best decision we ever made as a family to update this living space so that we would want to spend more time here for the summer, and so that it would be an inviting space for everybody – for us and for our family and friends.”
