CUTS TO WATER supplies in Dublin are set to continue into next week, the city council has warned, while South Dublin County Council says they’ll be continuing to cut supply “for the foreseeable future”.

The restrictions were meant to come to an end last night.

Today, Wicklow county council has announced that it has also begun cutting supplies.

The thaw is likely to bring further problems to the water supply, as burst pipes that have gone unnoticed will begin to defrost and start spilling water.

Motorists and pedestrians have been warned that slippery and icy conditions will persist, as the ice and snow is expected to melt gradually and may refreeze creating slick roads and pavements, according to Met Éireann.

The Irish Times quotes a spokesman for the council, who said that it would be making a decision on the next three nights on Friday afternoon – although he added that “the likelihood” was that the restrictions would continue until Sunday night at least.

Tonight, Fingal County Council will be shutting down the supply in Dublin 15, including the areas of Castleknock, Carpenterstown, Lohunda, Hartstown, Huntstown, Blakestown, Clonsilla and parts of Blanchardstown.

This weekend, top temperatures will hit between 4 and 6 degrees in the eastern half of the country and 7 to 9 degrees further west.

Night-time temperatures will still be below freezing in may parts, but dry weather is expected.
