Man and woman arrested over Tallaght shooting

The body of a man in his 30s was found in a remote location this morning.

Updated 9.10pm

TWO PEOPLE HAVE been arrested over the fatal shooting of a man in Tallaght.

The body of the man, believed to be in his 30s, was discovered at Hills Lane, Crooksling just off the N81 Tallaght-Blessington Road this morning.

A man and a woman, both in their mid 20s, were arrested this evening and are currently being held at Tallaght and Rathfarnham garda stations.

Speaking to reporters earlier today, Superintendent Peter Duff said there is nothing at this stage to indicate this shooting is connected to the recent killings in the north inner city,

Gardaí arrived at the scene shortly after 9am following a call from a member of the public.

Officers don’t have the weapon that was used but they have recovered a number of bullet cases that were found on the ground.

It’s believed the man was shot where he was discovered. The scene is currently undergoing a full technical examination.

The body has now been removed from the scene and a post mortem is due to take place tomorrow morning.

Gardaí declined to comment on the nationality of the deceased at the conference at Tallaght Garda Station this afternoon. Superintendent Duff said:

The identity of the deceased man has been confirmed and we are in the process of notifying his family, we believe that a number of gunshots were discharged at Hills Lane Crooksling.

“Consequently I am appealing for anyone who was in the Hills Lane or Crooksling areas between the hours of 9pm last night to 9am this morning or who may have heard gunshots in this area, to contact Tallaght Garda station on 01 666 6000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666111.”
