Disenchanted is streaming exclusively on Disney+ from tomorrow

The long awaited sequel to Enchanted arrives on Irish screens tomorrow, exclusively on Disney+

ARE YOU READY to return to the magical world of Andalasia?

Disenchanted, the long-awaited sequel to Enchanted, is streaming exclusively on Disney+ from tomorrow.

The live-action musical comedy features the original cast from the heart-warming story of the lovable maiden from the fairy tale world of Andalasia who finally found her Prince Charming in the kingdom of New York City.

The movie is set over 10 years after Giselle (Amy Adams) and Robert (Patrick Dempsey) wed, and Giselle has grown disillusioned with life in the city. Their growing family decides to move to the sleepy suburban community of Monroeville in search of their ‘happy ever after’, with Giselle’s stepdaughter Morgan and a new baby joining them.

Unfortunately, it isn’t the quick fix she had hoped for, as suburbia has a whole new set of rules and the local queen bee, Malvina Monroe (Maya Rudolph), makes Giselle feel more out of place than ever.

Frustrated that her fairy tale life hasn’t been so easy to find, Giselle turns to the magic of Andalasia for help, accidentally transforming the entire town into a real-life fantasy story and placing her family’s future happiness in jeopardy.

Now, Giselle is in a race against time to reverse the spell and determine what happily ever after truly means to her and her family.

Invoking the feel-good spirit of Enchanted, Disenchanted also combines its magical element with some real-world lessons, as Giselle must learn how to balance her real-life and magical worlds to create harmony and make her own happily ever after.

The movie features songs with music by 8-time Oscar-winning composer Alan Menken and lyrics by three-time Oscar-winning lyricist Stephen Schwartz, whose work on Enchanted garnered three Academy Award nominations.

If that’s anything to go off, the musical numbers will be sure to be embedded in your brain over the next few months.

When watching the movie, keep a close eye on the background, as you may spot a familiar sight. Several scenes were filmed in Enniskerry, Co. Wicklow, as the village was transformed into a magical fairytale town. Many Disney devotees travelled to the village to take in the filming and try to spot the A-list cast.

The cast itself needs no introduction, with Golden Globe winner Amy Adams and Patrick Dempsey (McDreamy from Grey’s Anatomy for those unaware!) reprising their roles as the main characters. Maya Rudolph is a new addition to the cast, playing the villain opposite Giselle in the movie.

Speaking at a D23Expo, a Disney fan event, Rudolph said it was a challenging role, joking that “It’s not easy being mean to Amy Adams.” Other returning members of the cast include James Marsden as Prince Edward and Idina Menzel as Nancy.

You can watch Disenchanted from tomorrow, exclusively on Disney+. Find out more or sign up to Disney+ for just €8.99 a month.
