DoneDeal of the Week: This SEAT Ibiza van is both stylish and economical

Need something bigger with three seats? We’ve got a Citroen Berlingo for you too.

LOOKING FOR A car-derived two-seat van that is well-finished and economical? Then this 2017 SEAT Ibiza van for €14,950 might just do the job.

The SEAT Ibiza van looks just like the Ibiza car that it is based on apart from the side metal panels in place of the rear windows. These rear panels are great for adding your brand or sign writing. The van also has body-coloured bumpers, a rear spoiler and a full-size spare wheel.

Inside, the cabin is pretty basic with lots of hard-wearing plastics but it does come with electric windows and a five-inch touchscreen infotainment centre as well as Bluetooth connectivity and a 12V socket. The SEAT Ibiza van also gets ABS, Electronic Stability Control, and multi-collision braking system.

Inside, there is a half-height solid bulkhead with the top half caged off, which allows for good visibility out the rear window and there is a handy foldable hard cover that sits over the cargo area to keep items hidden. The floor and rear wheel arches are covered in a hard-wearing fabric and it has a GCW of 440kg and can hold 609 to 891 litres.

On the road the van handles well and feels light and easy to manoeuvre. It deals with most surfaces with ease and feels quite brisk, thanks to its light weight and torquey 1.4-litre diesel engine. This engine makes 75hp at 3,500rpm and 210Nm of torque available from 1,750rpm. It has a decent combined fuel economy figure of 3.9 litres/100km (72.4mpg) and emissions of 93g/km with a commercial rate of motor tax fixed at €333 per annum.

The Berlingo is a practical and useful small van with three seats up front and the flexible modular folding passenger bench seat can be configured in three positions – the outer passenger seat folds forward to create a flat floor, the side passenger seat can be folded up cinema-style with the seat against the backrest and the folding central seat provides a desktop for an office on wheels. Nifty.

The cabin also features a seven-inch touchscreen with DAB radio and audio streaming. There is Bluetooth connectivity and voice recognition for connected mobile phones.

This particular LX model comes with Electronic Stability Control, Hill Start Assist, ABS and a driver’s airbag as well as remote central locking and deadlocks. It is powered by a 75hp 1.6-litre BlueHDi diesel engine and is mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. It has a combined fuel economy figure of 5.2 litres/100km (54.3mpg) and a CO2 emissions figure of 131g/km. It has a 641kg payload and load volume of 3,300 litres.

On the road the van is smooth and quiet and is great for city driving but still copes well out on the motorways too.
