Do you think all drugs should be decriminalised for personal use?

A new report has called for the removal of criminal penalties for personal drug possession.

A NUMBER OF TDs and senators across different parties have recommended that the possession of drugs for personal use be fully decriminalised.

The recommendation comes in the latest report from the Oireachtas joint committee on drugs use, which says that the “stigmatisation of drug use” causes significant harm in Irish society.

The report has called for the removal of criminal penalties for personal drug possession and recommends that this be applied equally across “all illicit drugs”.

You can read more details from the report here.

Decriminalisation does not mean that drugs would be legally sold, but that possession of a small quantity would not be a matter for justice system.

During Fianna Fáil’s last general election campaign, the party committed to change the laws relating to drug possession. However, it later clarified that any reforms would not extend to certain drugs, such as cocaine and heroin.

So, we’re asking: Do you think all drugs should be decriminalised for personal use?
