TAOISEACH ENDA KENNY has recorded and released his annual Christmas message to the people of Ireland or muintir na hÉireann as he says himself.

Kenny strikes a fairly despondent tone at the beginning of the video message as he acknowledges that “every household in Ireland has endured a lot” noting that many have lost jobs, families members to emigration and face an “agonising struggle” to make ends meet.

He also acknowledges that Christmas has “no doubt brought with it a sense of trepidation to many families” but then he talks about the positives, the economic recovery and the government’s “relentless focus” on jobs next year.

While he knows that the positive signs of recovery aren’t being expereinced by many people he insists “our economy is starting to recover”.

He also notes the children who are “counting the sleeps” to the “most anticipated visitor of the year” with ‘Minister for Time’ Alan Shatter having given clearance for Santa to enter Irish airspace tomorrow night.
