GARDAÍ AND BOMB disposal officers were called yesterday to a suspicious package at the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), The Journal has learned.

The incident began at 3.30pm when the building at Infirmary Road in Dublin 7 was sealed off. 

Workers at the DPP had detected a suspicious package, gardaí were called, and it was deemed that the military’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team was needed. 

They examined the package, and it was deemed a hoax. It will now be examined by forensic specialists to find who sent it. 

A garda spokesperson confirmed the incident and said a number of items have been sent to the Forensic Science Ireland laboratory for analysis.

An Irish Defence Forces spokesperson also confirmed that the EOD team were present. 

“Bomb disposal experts from the Defence Forces Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team responded to a request for assistance from An Garda Síochána in the vicinity of Infirmary Road yesterday afternoon.

“The EOD Team handed back over to An Garda Síochána having made the scene safe and returned to barracks at 2000hrs,” a spokesman said.
