THE REVIEW INTO Fianna Fáil’s failed presidential election bid is unlikely to be published until the new year, TDs and senators were told last night.
The parliamentary party meeting was also told by leader Micheál Martin that Jim Gavin’s legal team will assess its contents in advance of any publication.
Gavin withdrew dramatically from the presidential race after it was revealed he owed money to a previous tenant of his.
While Martin said he would endeavour to publish the review before Christmas, it is unclear how long the lawyers will take reviewing the content.
The report was due to be ready on 12 November, but was delayed, much to the anger of many politicians in the party.
Martin has already received a copy of the review, which is now being scrutinised by legal teams. Once that is complete, a special parliamentary party meeting will be held.
It is understood that members are unlikely to get advance copies ahead of that meeting, and instead would be given hard copies at the meeting so as to avoid leaks to the media in advance.
The majority of the TDs The Journal have spoken to do not expect the report to be revealed this side of Christmas.
