This Dublin mayor wants you to 'ask him stuff' on Tumblr

So far he’s been asked about coming out and his thoughts on the Government … and Canadians.

MAYOR OF SOUTH Dublin County Council Fintan Warfield has launched a Tumblr page in an attempt to “make the Mayor’s office more accessible”.

Warfield wants young people to get an opportunity to engage with the political process through the option of posting anonymous questions.

The Sinn Féin councillor for Templelogue-Terenure was elected to his role in May. The 22-year-old is an LGBT activist and the youngest mayor of a local authority in the country.

“I regularly ask myself whether the political system is truly representative of the community it serves,” Warfield said, adding:

People my own age often see no point in engaging with the democratic process at all and only 34% of those registered to vote exercised that right in the Dublin South West by-election.

Warfield stated that he hopes the blog “will make the Mayor’s office more accessible and afford young people an opportunity to ask questions anonymously about an issue close to their heart”.

So far he’s been asked about a range of issues, including coming out, his thoughts on politics and whether or not he likes Canadians.
