tall story

Foxy Romeo makes skyscraper his home

The adventurous animal survived in the building for two weeks by eating scraps left for him by workers.

YOU MIGHT HAVE heard of urban foxes – but Romeo the fox takes city living to a whole new level.

He was discovered to be living at the top of the tallest skyscraper in the UK, the 288m (945ft) Shard building at London Bridge, the BBC reports.

The wiley fox, who was named Romeo by staff, is thought to have entered the building through the central stairwell.

He survived on scraps of food left by builders working on the skyscraper, which is currently under construction.

Romeo was captured and taken to Riverside Animal Centre in Wallington where he was fed and given a check-up to make sure he was in good health.

Ted Burden, the centre’s founder, said:

We explained to him that if foxes were meant to be 72 storeys off the ground, they would have evolved wings. We think he got the message and, as we released him back on to the streets of Bermondsey shortly after midnight on Sunday, he glanced at the Shard and then trotted off in the other direction.

Here at TheJournal.ie, we wonder if Romeo’s fox pals will think his adventure was just a tall story.
