death Threat

'You will get a bullet before long you gay b*****d' - TD reports sinister death threat to gardaí

The letter was hand delivered to Frank Feighan’s Boyle constituency office.

FINE GAEL TD Frank Feighan has handed over a death threat letter he received to gardaí, describing it as one of the most “sinister” he has received in the last four years.

Feighan first posted a snippet of the letter on Twitter this morning. In it, the sender says they know when the politician leaves his house and mentions that they see him coming home.

“You will get a bullet before long you gay [sic] bastered RIP,” it adds.

Speaking to TheJournal.ie, Feighan said the letter had been hand delivered to his constituency office in Boyle.

“My secretary rang me this morning as soon as she opened it – she was very shocked. We’ve gotten letters like this every so often for the last four years but this is a new low.”

Aside from the death threat, much of the letter referenced Roscommon hospital and issues with the ambulance service.

Feighan said he felt the “sinister” language in the letter and particularly the reference to a bullet merited reporting it to gardaí who are now investigating it.

Earlier this month the Roscommon/South Leitrim TD confirmed he would not be contesting the next general election. He said today he thinks society in Ireland needs to “stop and think that politicians are humans and we have families”.

This latest threat comes one week after Labour senator Lorraine Higgins received two abusive emails, one of which said there would be  “nothing better than filling your rat’s mouth with lead”.

“If this was any other profession this would have been stopped years ago but it seems to be some kind of frenzy now,” Feighan said.
