DRAMA LOVERS HAVE been invited to head to Dublin’s Iveagh Gardens next month for a free outdoor production of one of William Shakespeare’s best-loved plays.

Following on from the success of last year’s free production ‘Romeo and Juliet (Unplugged)’, Fortune’s Fool Productions are bringing a new round of live entertainment to audiences of all ages with a production of The Tempest.

The Tempest tells the story of Prospero and his daughter Miranda who have been stranded on a strange, deserted island for 12 years – unfolding an enchanting tale of sibling rivalry, magic, romance, comedy and redemption.

Organisers say it is an opportunity for the whole community to enjoy and evening of culture at a time when stress over economic matters risks impacting peoples’ quality of life.

“We believe Shakespeare’s plays can be magical, transformative community experiences that must be accessible to everyone. Specifically, many children’s and student’s lives are profoundly impacted just from seeing a single production of Shakespeare. His work defines what it means to be human,” the company said.

The unplugged production is supported by the OPW and the Iveagh Gardens and funded through private donations and sponsors including the RPA/LUAS.

Audiences are encouraged to bring picnics and blankets to enjoy the event. Shows will start at 7pm on weeknights (3 August and 7-10 August) and 3pm on Saturdays and Sundays (4, 5, 11 and 12 August).

The Iveagh Gardens will open at 6.30 for seating (reservations not necessary).
