Gardaí foil robbery by man wearing balaclava and armed with a crowbar

The staff members were found after being locked into a room.

GARDAÍ FOILED A robbery today that was taking place in a shop in Finglas, during which the staff were locked into a room.

At approximately 7.30am uniformed gardaí were alerted to a robbery in progress at a shop in the Hampton Wood area of Finglas.

Upon arrival, gardaí forced entry into the shop where they discovered a man wearing a balaclava armed with a crowbar.

Following a brief struggle, the man was apprehended. A man in his 40s was arrested and brought to Finglas Garda Station where he is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

Two staff members, a male and a female, were found after being locked into a room inside the premises. They were not physically harmed during the incident, gardaí said.

The investigation is ongoing.
