Gardaí appeal for witnesses after woman (30s) found dead at house in Cork

Gardaí and emergency services responded after the women’s body was found ‘in unexplained circumstances’.

LAST UPDATE | 13 Mar

GARDAÍ ARE APPEALING for witnesses to come forward after a woman in her thirties was found dead in a house in Ballincollig, Co Cork.

Gardaí attended the scene in Innishmore Park this evening – a residential area in the middle of Ballincollig, a western suburb of Cork.

The scene has been sealed off. Images show gardaí standing next to garda tape outside a two-story red-brick terraced house.

Gardaí and emergency services responded after the women’s body was found “in unexplained circumstances”.

“Nobody else was in the house at the time the woman’s body was discovered deceased at the scene,” a Garda spokesperson said.

Her body is expected to be conveyed to the morgue at University College Cork for post-mortem examination tomorrow.

Gardaí said the results of the post-mortem will determine the course of their investigation.

Local Sinn Féin councillor, Joe Lynch, who is a resident of Innishmore estate, said he has spent the evening with residents near the scene.

Lynch said: “In the first instance, my thoughts go out to the victim and their family.”

“This is a truly shocking incident, and it has caused major upset in what is a close, tight-knit community.

“As a lifelong resident of the estate, I have spent the evening with friends and neighbours, and all I can say is that everyone here in Innishmore is shell-shocked.

“The gardaí have a job to do now to bring the person responsible to justice, and we know they will do all they can to ensure that is done.”
