LAST UPDATE | 8 Jan 2019

GARDAÍ HAVE ARRESTED a 32-year-old man after the body of a woman was found in a house in Ardee, Co Louth.

He was arrested in the Ardee area and is currently detained under the provisions of Section 4 of The Criminal Justice Act 1984 at Drogheda Garda Station.

It is believed that the body was found with severe injuries.

The woman has been named locally as Elzbieta Piotrowska.

Gardaí were called to a house in the Clonmore area of the town at around 11.30am.

The house has been sealed off and the Office of the State Pathologist has been notified.

Elzbieta is originally from Poland. She had been living in the house with her family before her death. The family has been living in Ireland for the last 10 years.

Superintendent Des McTiernan said that there are a number of scenes gardaí believe are related to the crime.

He said: “We also have a number of other scenes that we have a significant interest in. One on Bridge Street here, the other in the Cherrybrook estate and another in Drumconrath – a townland in the Mandistown area.”

He said that they have one person arrested and that gardaí are not looking for anyone else. They are following a definite line of inquiry.

“We have so far one person arrested. We’re not looking for anyone else. There are a number of other people who are assisting the investigations.

“We have the person who we believe was involved in the incident arrested and detained in Drogheda Garda Station,” he said, telling reporters there was no further danger to the public arising from the crime.

He would not comment on whether a weapon had been found. However, it is understood a large blade has since been recovered by investigating gardaí.
