HILLARY CLINTON HAS said she supports same-sex marriage and believes that America should allow gay couples to marry.
In a video released this afternoon by an American LGBT group, the former Secretary of the United States says that all Americans are entitled to be treated as full citizens – including the right to get married.
Clinton had previously said that she supported civil unions rather than marriage during her campaign for president in 2008.
“LGBT Americans are our colleagues, our teachers, our soldiers, our friends, our loved ones,” she says in the video. “And they are full and equal citizens and deserve the rights of citizenship. That includes marriage.”
That’s why I support marriage for lesbian and gay couples.
Clinton said that she supported same sex marrage “personally and as a matter of policy and law”.
Her daughter Chelsea Clinton tweeted a link to the video with the hashtag #ProudDaughterAgain.
The video is likely to fuel further speculation about Clinton running in the 2016 US presidential election. David Plouffe, who served as Barack Obama’s campaign manager when Hillary ran for the Democratic nominee in 2008, said last night that Clinton is ‘probably the strongest candidate‘ for 2016 if she decides to run.
