Check your tumble dryers — a fire safety warning has been issued for several brands and models

You can avail of a free in-home modification.

IF YOU HAVE a tumble dryer in your home, be sure to check the make and model.

Certain tumble dryers made by Hoover, Haier and Candy are included in a Product Safety Issue notice. Certain built-in heat pump tumble dryers made by these companies are a fire risk due to “manufacturing variations”, which can result in the product catching fire when it is in use.

The affected models were made between 2019 and 2025, and customers are being urged to check their models in order to avail of a free, in-home modification to address the fire safety risk.

Customers are instructed to stop using their tumble dryers immediately and follow these three steps:

1. Locate the 16-digit serial number inside the door panel of the appliance
2. Visit www.productsafety.haier.ie
3. Enter the serial number to check if the appliance is affected

This list of Hoover tumble dryer models affected includes:

If it turns out that your tumble dryer is affected by the notice, make sure to switch it off, unplug it and leave it out of use. Once it’s confirmed that your tumble dryer is affected, you will be contacted by the maker to arrange a free, in-home modification by an approved engineer.

The company will contact you in order to arrange the in-home modification, and will organise an appropriate and convenient time for the work to be carried out.

A spokesperson for Hoover said: “Customer safety is our absolute priority. We are urging anyone with a built-in heat pump tumble dryer manufactured between 2019 and 2024 to check their appliance immediately using our online checker.”

“If your model is affected, please stop using it and arrange your free in-home modification. We apologise for any inconvenience and are working to complete the in-home safety modifications as quickly as possible.”
