HSE: Hospitals have overspent by €120m so far this year

A new HSE performance report shows that it has overspent its budget by €170 million up to the end of May – with most of that being overspent by hospitals.

A NEW HSE performance report shows that it has overspent its budget by €170 million up to the end of May.

Some €120 million overspending relates to hospitals, with the Mid West Regional Hospital in Limerick alone over budget by €14 million. In response, the HSE has announced that it will be forced to put a freeze on all but the most critical vacancies, RTÉ reports.

The other hospitals identified as having over spent are:

University College Hospital Galway – €8.6 million

Tallaght Hospital in Dublin – €7.5 million

Cork University Hospital – €7.1 million

St Vincent’s Hospital  in Dublin – €6.2 million

Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda – €5.6 million

Beaumont Hospital in Dublin – €5.3 million

Waterford Regional Hospital - €5.3 million
