Investigation into Sligo helicopter crash

There were two people on board at the time of the crash.

TWO INVESTIGATIONS HAVE been launched into a helicopter crash near Sligo last night.

At around 5pm on Monday evening gardaí got a report of a light aircraft having crashed in a field in Hazelwood, Sligo.

Gardaí and the Sligo fire service attended the scene but the two occupants of the helicopter were thankfully unharmed.

An Air Accident Investigation Unit team was sent to the scene, which is still preserved.

They will investigate what caused the helicopter, which is believed to have been a two-seater, to crash.

Gardaí have also launched a separate general investigation into the incident.
