LAST UPDATE | 17 May
A YOUNG IRISHMAN and a woman have died in a road crash in Thailand.
The man has been named locally as Dublin film student Max Hendrickson. Max was a student at Dún Laoghaire Institute Of Art, Design, and Technology (IADT).
The nationality of his companion is currently unknown.
Irish film festival Fresh Film said it was “deeply saddened and shocked” to hear of Max’s death.
“We first met Max when he won a Fresh Film Junior Award at just 12 years of age, and even then his talent and creativity were already so obvious. Over the years, we always looked forward to seeing what Max would create next, watching him grow into a remarkable young filmmaker,” a spokesperson said.
In 2023, Max won Ireland’s Young Filmmaker of the Year for his film The Tell-Tale Heart. The festival described it as “a piece of work that showed extraordinary vision, skill and imagination”.
“Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with Max’s family, friends and everyone who knew and loved him.”
A spokeswoman for the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade said it is aware of this case and is providing consular assistance.
“As with all consular cases, the Department does not comment on the details of individual cases.”
