Love

The Late Late audience was full of single people - and everyone thought they were drunk

There was certainly something for everyone in the audience…

IT’S VALENTINE’S WEEKEND and that means last night was the Late Late singles special.

Last year, you might remember columnist Katie Hopkins kissed a member of the audience live on air.

For last night’s show, the audience was made up of single people from all across the country. And they were in good form.

Very good form.

Host Ryan Tubridy decided to go all Cilla Black, with the show’s own version of blind date.

Amanda chose Contestant Number Two, or Topshop worker Deano, and they already seemed to be getting on swimmingly early on in the night. Should Ryan buy a hat?

A love story

In a celebration of love, the show also gave a prize to ‘Ireland’s Most Loved Up Couple’, after nominations from friends and family of couples across the country.

The prize went to Debbie Laffan and husband Reg Plunkett. They met at just 16 years of age at a local disco and have been together ever since.

Reg was diagnosed with stage five renal failure three and a half years ago, just three months after the birth of the couple’s third child. The next three years were a battle to keep him alive and Debbie decided to get tested to see if she could be a transplant match.

When her tests came back, miraculously, she was a perfect match for the love of her life.

“It was one in a million,” she told the show.

Last October, they underwent the operation. Deb is fully recovered and Reg is on the mend. Their appearance on the show last night was their first night out since the transplant.  The well-deserving couple have won a romantic getaway in Europe.

Merry

The show went down well with viewers, though most people were convinced the audience were all drunk.

A load of drunk single people, all in the one place on Valentine’s weekend. Sure what else would they give them?

Some even thought it was better than the Toy Show…

And we couldn’t forget this poor woman who thought the REAL Daniel O’Donnell was going to perform for them. A modern tragedy.
