Limerick pensioner mugging: Man in 20s no longer being detained

She was attacked by a lone mugger, who made off with her handbag after a struggle.

A MAN IN his 20s who was being questioned in connection with the the alleged assault and robbery of an 89-year-old woman outside her home in Limerick is no longer being detained in connection with the crime.

A file on the case is to be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The woman was approached outside her house on Rossbrien Road in Limerick on Sunday at around 10.30pm.

She was accosted by a lone man who attempted to take her hand bag.

Following a struggle he made off on foot with the bag, which contained a small amount of cash.

The woman was taken from the scene by ambulance to University Hospital Limerick, where she is still receiving treatment for her injuries.

A man in his 20s was arrested on Monday evening by investigating gardaí and held for questioning under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Roxboro Road Garda Station.
