British Lord resigns after video shows him 'snorting cocaine off a prostitute's body'
The 69-year-old, who had been in charge of upholding House of Lords standards, quit today.
THE DEPUTY SPEAKER of the British House of Lords has resigned after a newspaper released a video of him allegedly taking drugs with two prostitutes.
Lord John Sewel took the decision today, after the Sun on Sunday obtained hidden camera footage of him apparently engaging in drug taking with the two women, who at one stage he calls “whores”.
Later in the video, Sewel is seen using a £5 note to apparently snort a line of the drug off one of the women’s breasts.
The 69-year-old, who had been in charge of upholding House of Lords standards, tells the women:
“I just want to be led astray.”
He then suggests that the women “try the big one”. When they ask what that means, he responds:
Um, it comes in a can and it’s got, has it got Pepsi? No it’s not Pepsi, it’s another word rather than Pepsi cola. It’s Coca-Cola — forget the Cola.
Today, Sewel resigned and is facing a police probe, after Lords Speaker Baroness D’Souza called the incident “shocking and unacceptable”.
In a statement she said:
“Lord Sewel has this morning resigned as chairman of committees. The House of Lords will continue to uphold standards in public life and will not tolerate departure from these standards.
“These serious allegations will be referred to the House of Lords commissioner for standards and the Metropolitan Police for investigation as a matter of urgency.”
