Luas night services for Christmas announced as Red Line to reopen fully tomorrow after fire
The section of the line between Connolly and The Point was shut down for over three months.

THE RED LUAS line will reopen fully tomorrow as repairs to George’s Dock bridge have been completed following a fire.
The section of the line between Connolly and The Point was shut down for over three months, since the large fire broke out on 19 August.
The blaze broke out near the International Financial Services Centre (IFSC) and came into contact with a gas line. It took a number of hours to get the fire under control.
Luas operator Transdev said at the time that the fire caused “significant damage” to George’s Bridge, which carries the tram.
Around 20,000 passenger journeys take place every day on the Connolly to The Point section of the Red Line, with numbers increasing significantly during concerts, matches, and major events.
In a statement today, Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) said it conducted a detailed assessment of the bridge, light rail infrastructure, and associated utilities.
They undertook an “intensive programme of construction and reinstatement works”.
“In addition to bridge reconstruction, utility connections, and Luas tracks and the Overhead Contact System were fully reinstated,” it said.
The Commission for Railway Regulation approved the return of passenger services this week.
TII thanked all agencies and individuals who were involved in the works, which were completed within the expected timeframe. It also thanked Luas passengers for their patience and understanding during the period of disruption.
“Your cooperation allowed us to prioritise safety and reinstate Luas services just in time for the busy Christmas season.”
Christmas schedule
Both the Red and Green lines will run into the early hours of the morning on certain dates over the Christmas period. The dates are as follows:
- Friday, 12 December
- Saturday, 13 December
- Friday, 19 December
- Saturday, 20 December
On Christmas Eve, services will run until 8pm. There are no Luas services on Christmas Day.
Some night services will also operate on New Years’ Eve.
