Magnitude 7.4 earthquake strikes off Japanese coast

A tsunami alert has been issued after a magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck off Japan’s ravaged east coast, various news agencies have reported.

Japan NHK says those in areas where the tsunami warning has been issued should evacuate to higher ground, Reuters reports.
