Major Irish transport business closes

Liam Carroll Transport cuts 100 jobs.

LIAM CARROLL TRANSPORT has announced it has ceased trading, with the loss of 100 jobs. The company was one of Ireland’s biggest transport companies.

The company, based in Thurles, Co Tipperary, said that rival transport firm Masterlink will take over a number of its contracts and up to 70 workers from Carroll may be employed by Masterlink when work on those contracts begins.

Company owner Liam Carroll blamed the economic downturn for the closure. Carrolls had been in operation since 1978.
