A 30-YEAR-OLD MAN has appeared in court charged with attempted murder in north Belfast.

Hadi Alodid (30), of Apartment 1, 4 Duncairn Avenue, Belfast is charged with the attempted murder of a man in his 40s on 8 June in Kinnaird Avenue.

The court heard the man lost his left eye and incurred serious damage to his right eye, as well as deep lacerations to the face and back.

The man remains in serious condition in hospital.

Alodid is also charged with possession of a knife in a public place, as well as threats to kill.

He is charged with making a threat to kill a female NHS radiographer on 8 June and that the said radiographer feared that it would be carried out.

He appeared at Laganside court via video link and an Arabic interpreter was used. He denied legal representation.

The court heard that when Alodid was in hospital being treated for a hand injury after the incident, he said: “I killed someone. I don’t know if they’re dead.”

The PSNI opposed bail for Alodid, for his own safety, because he is considered a flight risk, and because there is a risk of sparking public disorder.

The judge said his thoughts are with the victim, and he praised emergency services and members of the public who came to the man’s aid.

The judge also acknowledged posts on social media calling for men to wear dark clothing and block roads, and said that anyone partaking in that can expect to appear before the courts.
