Man arrested over shooting of 6-year-old still being questioned by gardaí

The man is being held in connection with withholding information on the shooting of the child.

A MAN IN his 30s arrested in connection with the shooting of a 6-year-old boy in Dublin on Friday night is continuing to be questioned by gardaí.

The man was arrested at around 3.30pm on Sunday afternoon. It is understood that the arrest is in connection with withholding information.

He is being held at Ballyfermot Garda Station under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act and can be held for up to 72 hours.

The 6-year-old child was shot in the neck in a house in Ballyfermot and is being treated for his injuries at Our Lady’s Hospital in Crumlin. His condition is not life-threatening.

Gardaí have said they believe the boy was not the intended target of the shooting.

Investigators have appealed for information about the attack, which Minister for Justice Frances Fitzgerald described as ‘barbaric’.
