Man held over social media comments made over Union flag dispute
A 28-year-old man is being held by police in north Belfast over comments made on Facebook in relation to the ongoing Union flag controversy.
POLICE IN NORTHERN Ireland have arrested a man over comments made on social media in connection with the ongoing Union flag dispute in Belfast.
A PSNI spokesperson confirmed that the man was arrested in connection with remarks made on Facebook, but declined to give details about the content of the comments.
The man, 28, is now being held in north Belfast.
A dispute over the flying of the Union flag erupted in December after Belfast City Council decided to severely reduce the number of days it would be flown over Belfast City Hall. Loyalists opposing the decision have staged protests in the subsequent weeks.
While the majority of demonstrations have been peaceful, some have led to serious rioting and the injury of more that 100 police officers.
