WHAT’S GOING ON in Leinster House?

So, here is what we can expect to be happening in the Dáil, Seanad and Committee rooms today…

3 things we’ll be keeping an eye on

• Dáil: Leaders’ Questions — Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore will be hopping up at 12pm to field questions from the chamber.
• Committees: Public Accounts Committee — PAC will be discussing a report from the Auditor General on Medical Cards at 10am in Room 1. You can see that report here.
• Dáil: Minister for Agriculture — Simon Coveney is up first, bright and early at 9.30am, where he will be taking questions on his portfolio.

Everything else that’s happening in the Dáil

• Exactly the same proceedings as yesterday afternoon, the debate on a bill which deals with lowering income limits for medical cards for the over 70s continues at 10.45am, to be followed by the Local Government Bill 2013.
• After that it’s Order of Business at 12.21pm, which includes a motion, without debate, on the Arms Trade Treaty.
• Any Topical Issues troubling our TDs will be heard at 4.42pm.

Everything else that’s happening in the Seanad

• Order of Business beings at 10.30am.
• The mammoth Companies Bill 2013 will make an appearance at 11.45am, discussed by Minister for Jobs, Enterprise, and Innovation Richard Bruton.
• After that, it’s Matters on the Adjournment.

Everything else that’s happening in the Committees

• At 9.30am in Room 2, members of the Health and Children Committee will look at sending report on organ donation in Ireland, which recommends a ‘soft opt-out’ system, to the Dáil. After that, the hearings on End of Life Care will resume, featuring representatives from organisations like the Pre-Hospital Emergency Care Council and the Irish Association for Emergency Medicine.
• Minister of State Paschal Donohoe will be in Room 3 at 2pm with the Joint Committee on European Union Affairs to discuss an upcoming EU Council.
• The Agriculture, Food, and Marine committee will be looking at a raft of EU legislation, ranging from fishing protocols between the European Union and the Kingdom of Morocco to the loosing restrictions on the importation of beef from the United States. That’s at 10am in Room 3.
