THE CENTRAL BANK has issued a new (mini-)commemorative coin to celebrate Irish monastic art.
At 11 mm in diameter and weighing 0.5 g, the €20 coin is one of the smallest gold coins in the world.
The €20 gold proof collector coin features a portrayal of monastic art and depicts a monk at work transcribing the Gospels and New Testament in a scriptorium. It was designed by Irish artist Tom Ryan.
The other side of the coin features the harp and year date of issue.
The coins have an issue limit of 12,000 units and are available from today from the bank’s offices on Dame Street or by calling 1890 307 607. Each unit costs €45.
