1. RIP

Mick O’Dwyer, one of the most prominent figures in the history of the GAA, has passed away at the age of 88.

2. Tariffs 

World leaders have been reacting after US President Donald Trump announced sweeping new tariffs on imports to the United States last night.

3. Childcare 

Minister for Children Norma Foley has poured cold water on any expectations of significant reductions to the cost of childcare in this year’s Budget.

4. Birthing room unused

A sought-after modern labour room with a birthing pool funded by the HSE to the tune of €100,000 is rarely being used in Sligo University Hospital (SUH), The Journal Investigates has revealed. 

5. Wanted

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu arrived in Budapest this morning following an invitation from Hungary’s Premier Victor Orban, despite an outstanding arrest warrant for his arrest from the International Criminal Court.  

6. Oireachtas committees 

The government is aiming to begin establishing Oireachtas Committees next week, after delays caused by the row over speaking rights in the Dáil. 

7. EU ‘prepared to respond’ 

The EU is ready to respond to new US tariffs, the bloc’s chief Ursula von der Leyen said early this morning, urging US President Donald Trump to address his concerns through dialogue.

8. Pharma sector spared 

There was a sigh of relief among some in government last night when it became clear that the US tariff rate on EU products of 20% has not been extended to pharmaceutical products.

9. Nobody home 

Donald Trump has announced new “reciprocal” tariffs of 10% on a small collection of Antarctic islands that are not inhabited by humans, as part of a sweeping announcement to “make America wealthy again”.
