Mother gives birth in back of taxi on busy Belfast road

Little Isaac Fegan decided that he didn’t want to wait until his mum and dad got to the hospital before he made his entrance into the world.

LITTLE ISAAC FEGAN was in a bit of a hurry last Saturday – so much so that he decided he couldn’t wait until he got to the hospital to be born.

Isaac’s mother Angela went into labour on Saturday and called a taxi to bring her and her husband Billy to the hospital, reports the print edition of today’s The Irish News.

But as they sped along Belfast’s busy Westlink towards the Royal Victoria Hospital, Isaac just couldn’t wait to be born.

Angela had to ask taxi driver Frank Ritchie to pull over as her contractions had become very strong.

In a scene that could have come from a Hollywood movie, Angela’s husband and Mr Ritchie helped deliver the baby by the side of the road before speeding the new family off to the hospital.

Afterwards, the dad joked that he wanted to name his 9lb 3oz son ‘Francis Westlink’.
