TG4 and the Seinnteoir TG4 (Player) have tons of excellent programmes for you to dig into as the nights get darker, making the transition from summer to autumn that little bit easier. Whether you’re interested in documentaries about how the younger generations in Ireland are faring, want to travel without leaving the house or want to learn more about the natural world, there’s plenty here for you to enjoy.
Buildings Beo
Buildings Beo is a property show with a difference: it’s not only about the renovation of heritage buildings all around the country, but also about the people and the communities who bring these buildings to life. Carrie Crowley takes a closer look at six inspiring projects across Ireland, where architectural legacies are being preserved and transformed into vital community spaces. With over 166,000 vacant buildings in Ireland today this series sheds light on the urgent need for renewal of abandoned spaces.

In this brand new series, Glúin Z/Gen Z give their opinions on what life is like in Ireland in the 2020s. Across these four episodes, they chat about everything from the cost of living, to personal identity, to the challenges they face. Being born into a digital world, this generation has faced challenges and benefits that their parents couldn’t have imagined. If you want to get this essential insight into what the world is like for Ireland’s young people, this is a must-watch. Hector OZ/NZ
It’s a long trek to Australia and New Zealand, so why not sit back and let Ireland’s intrepid explorer Hector Ó hEochagáin explore Down Under for you? A familiar face across the screen for decades, thanks to his irreverent, high-energy style, you can be assured that Hector will seek out adventures far beyond the usual tourist traps. It’s been 19 years since he was last in Australia, so there’s plenty for him to discover about what has changed since the early 2000s. He kicks off the seven-part series by heading to Melbourne.

Ceol ón gCré
The embracing of Irish traditional music by younger generations and bands like Lankum has led to somewhat of a revival of interest in the genre across the country. If you’d love to learn more about trad, Ceol ón gCré is a must watch, as it celebrates the customs and traditions from rural Ireland and its connection to our traditional music. The host for this new four part series is whistle player and singer Nell Ní Chróinín, who looks at rural Ireland in a cultural and musical context, meeting many characters and hearing great performances along the way.

Néara-Éagsúlacht: Dearcadh Difriúil
In this new two part series, neurodivergence is explored in Ireland. In episode one, we meet young people under 18 (as well as their families) and learn how neurodivergence shapes their daily lives. Then in episode two we hear from adults over 18 as they share their personal experiences. This is such a pertinent topic in Ireland today, and the series is a rare chance to hear directly from people themselves about neurodivergence in Ireland and how it impacts people.

Ros na Rún
Ros na Rún is a telly institution in Ireland, and is about to start it’s 30th series. This year the TG4 flagship series promises to serve up even more scintillating drama. We can expect significant soul searching and villagers trying to figure out who is telling the truth amidst a cloud of lies, deceit and treachery. Big questions arise, like has the crime mogul Risteard survived the drama from the end of the last season? An emotional rollercoaster awaits, as does plenty of drama, humour – and multiple twists.

Calling all GAA fans! Club championships are back on GAA Beo. Catch up with how your local club is doing by watching on TG4 & Seinnteoir TG4 (Player).
Other must-watch sporting moments across September and October are Aussie Rules na mBan every Saturday and Sunday (deferred); Gaelic Handball live on YouTube.
Rásaí Lios Tuathail will take place from 22-27 September. URC is back on Rugbaí Beo from 26 September. The Women’s Premier Division will be live on Sacar na mBan on 6, 20 and 27 September, while the FAI Cup semi-final will be on 13 September.
