One man arrested over 277kg cannabis seizure

The drugs, with a street value of around €1.6m, were seized from a truck stopped on the M9 and brought back to Dublin.

A 33-YEAR-OLD MAN has been arrested following the seizure of 277kg of cannabis resin and herbs from a truck in Kildare yesterday.

The truck was stopped passing through the county on the M9 yesterday, and escorted back to Dublin by officers from the Garda National Drugs Unit.

In Dublin Port it was searched by Gardaí who seized around 300kg of drugs, with an approximate street value of €1.6m.

The drugs were concealed in a consignment of tiles, which had arrived in Dublin Port from Spain.

The seizure included 270kg of cannabis resin, and 7kg of herbal cannabis.

The man, a Lithuanian national, remains in detention at Store Street Garda station under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act.
