At least 37 people have been killed as the tornadoes destroyed everything in their paths on Friday.

POWERFUL TORNADOES SWEPT across a wide swath of midwest and south USA on Friday, killing at least 37 people in four states.

Small towns have been demolished and rural communities cut off in Ohio, Alabama, Indiana and Kentucky. The death toll continued to rise today as rescue teams continued to search for survivors.

Massive thunderstorms led to dozens of tornadoes which raced from the Gulf Coast to the Great Lakes yesterday. The twisters crushed homes and other buildings, as well as knocking out phone and power lines, tossing cars and strewing debris.

Meanwhile, a baby girl found alone in a field in Indiana after the massive, tornado-spawning storms is being treated in a Kentucky hospital. Authorities are still trying to figure out how she ended up in the field alone.

The girl remains in critical condition at Kosair Children’s Hospital in Louisville.
