Poll: Should the Queen come back to Ireland?

A historic visit has passed off relatively peacefully and been heralded as a great success, so much so that the Queen wants to come back. But should she?

FOLLOWING A HISTORIC four-day visit to Ireland widely heralded as a success, Queen Elizabeth II yesterday said that she would like to return to Ireland.

The Taoiseach Enda Kenny yesterday said that Her Majesty indicated she wished to return to Ireland after enjoying her extensive tour which included landmark occasions at Garden of Remembrance and more laid back events such as those in Munster yesterday.

However, the visit did not pass off entirely peacefully with protests by those staunchly opposed to the Queen’s arrival Ireland leading to a number of arrests. Issues have also been raised about the cost of the event in these strained economic times, previously estimated at some €30 million.

With all that in mind, should the Queen return to Ireland as she wishes  to?
