Updated 12.10pm

TWO MEN HAVE been charged in relation to prisoner Derek Brockwell escaping from Tallaght Hospital on 17 February 2015.

The men , aged 32 and 58 years, were due to appear in court this morning – the younger man before Navan District Court and the older man before Tallaght District Court.

They were arrested in the county Meath area this morning and remain in garda custody at Rathfarnham Garda Station.

Brockwell (then 53), a UK national, had been serving a seven-year sentence at Portlaoise prison for robbery and possession of firearms when he escaped last February.

He escaped after stabbing two prison officers while being brought to Tallaght Hospital. He fled the area on a waiting motorbike.

Brockwell remained at large for over 24 hours, before being tasered and captured in Belfast following a manhunt. He stabbed himself in the stomach as police approached.

He was transferred to a prison in England.
