Prisoner escapes from custody during hospital visit

GARDAÍ HAVE confirmed that a prisoner escaped from the Irish Prison Service’s custody this evening while being treated at Mid-Western Regional Hospital. Both the gardaí and the prison service are investigating the incident and are searching for the escaped man. RTÉ reports that the man, aged in his 20s, has a year left to serve. He was chased by two prison officers, but managed to escape.
