IN HIS NEARLY four years as chair of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), John McGuinness, has crafted a reputation for being a straight-talker who isn’t afraid to criticise his own party.
The Fianna Fáil TD has made no secret of his ambition to lead his party and hasn’t been afraid to criticise the leadership.
When he came into TheJournal.ie offices this week, we asked about his role on the PAC as well as trying to find out a bit more about the man himself…
1. Does the government interfere with the PAC?
2. Does PAC stray beyond its remit, as has been claimed?
3. Are he and other TDs on the PAC just shameless publicity seekers?
4. Does he stand by his view that the State should, in some cases, pay for wives to accompany ministers on foreign trips? (and what sort of toilet tissue does he use?)
