Revenue seize 125,120 cigarettes in Rosslare and Dublin

REVENUE HAS SEIZED over 125,000 cigarettes in recent days.

The seizures took place at Rosslare Europort today and at Dubin Airport last Saturday with seized brands including ‘West’, ‘Denim’, ‘Winston’, ‘Marlboro’ and ‘Esse’.

In Rosslare today, a total of 94,120 cigarettes, with a retail value of €44,707 and a potential loss to the Exchequer of €35,013, were seized as a result of routine profiling.

The cigarettes were discovered in an Irish registered van which disembarked from a ferry arriving from Cherbourg in France.

Meanwhile, last Saturday some 31,000 cigarettes, with a retail value of €14,725 and a potential loss to the Exchequer of €12,868, were seized from a man arriving at Dublin Airport from Erbil in Kurdistan.

The man, 28 and with a UK passport, was arrested and appeared before Judge Patricia McNamara at the Criminal Courts of Justice today where he was remanded in custody to appear before Cloverhill District Court on Wednesday.
