Rocket launcher and warhead found in Belfast house

The search was conducted as part of an investigation into dissident republican activity.

A ROCKET LAUNCHER and warhead were removed from a west Belfast property last night after police searched the premises as part of an investigation into ongoing dissident republican activity.

Residents of Hawthorn Street were evacuated as PSNI officers and army technical officers examined the suspect device.

The rocket launcher and warhead have now been taken away for forensic examination. The road has been reopened and people have returned to their homes.

The PSNI said the weapon systems found were “clearly intended to kill” and their recovery means lives have been saved.
