Russia kills Metro bomber mastermind

Russia claims to have killed the man who organised a double suicide bombing in the Moscow underground in March.

RUSSIA CLAIMS TO have killed the mastermind behind this summer’s Moscow underground attacks, in which 40 people died.

Magomed-Ali Vagabov died after a shoot-out with police in Dagestan, according to official sources. The so-called “Emir of the Dagestan front” was identified by security forces on Saturday.

Vagabov is thought to be the second-in-command of the Northern Caucasus Islamist movement.

The North Caucasus is within Russia’s territory but is predominantly Muslim, and Chechen militants have been fighting for Sharia law to be applied across the region for many years.

Vagabov is said to have masterminded two coordinated suicide bombings in the Russian capital’s underground during rush hour in March. One of the suicide bombers was reportedly Vagabov’s wife.
