SCIENCE WEEK IS back, and it’s not going to disappoint! Supported by Science Foundation Ireland (SFI), the first in-person Science Week since 2019 will see events take place across the country between Sunday 13 November to Sunday 20 November and there’s still plenty of time to get involved.
With the theme of Infinite Possibilities running throughout, excitement is building for the week-long science showcase, and SFI are encouraging the public to get involved and attend events to truly see what’s been going on within the scientific community.
Science Foundation Ireland believe in the ability of science, technology, engineering and maths to effect positive change in the world and drive a sustainable international economy. With Science Week, the aim is to encourage people to discuss and explore the possibilities that science offers. This year’s theme will help us explore the infinite possibilities science offers and the role of science in delivering solutions that support our future opportunities and challenges.
This year’s theme was developed as a direct response to the Government’s Creating Our Future public consultation campaign. This national conversation on research in Ireland gathered over 18,000 submissions. The campaign demonstrated a clear want from the Irish public to have their voices heard across a wide variety of topics, including science.
Speaking about the upcoming Science Week, Director General of Science Foundation Ireland, Professor Philip Nolan, spoke of his delight at finally welcoming people back:
We are delighted to be welcoming people back in-person to Science Week events for the first time since 2019 as well as running virtual events for a truly hybrid experience. We would encourage everyone to take part in Science Week this year and to explore the Infinite Possibilities of science at in-person events or online. We are focussing on key themes that we know the public is concerned about such as sustainable living, mental health, and digital technologies. Science Week is a fantastic opportunity for people all over Ireland to discover and engage with science.”
