Six NATO troops killed by gunman

Taliban claim American soldiers were killed by a man who joined the border guards specifically to target foreign soldiers.

A MAN DRESSED AS AN Afghan policeman has shot and killed six NATO soldiers in the eastern province of Nangarhar, near the border with Pakistan.

The gunman also died in the incident.

The AP has reported that the six men were Americans, and they were attacked during a training mission.

The training programme is a US-led project which aims to train enough Afghan police and security members for Afghan forces to take over their national security by 2014.

A Taliban spokesperson said the gunman had joined the border guards intentionally to kill foreign soldiers, according to the BBC.

Two suicide bombers dressed as Afghan policemen killed 12 police offers at the weekend, and five British soldiers were killed last year by an Afghan policeman.

Reuters reports that US President Barack Obama is due to review his Afghan war strategy next month. Foreign forces have agreed to end combat operations in Afghanisation by 2014.

Over 660 foreign soldiers have been killed in Afghanistan this year, according to figures compiled by iCasualties.
