THIEVES HAVE STOLEN a trailer loaded with 5,400 bottles of Dom Perignon champagne worth an estimated €413,000 from the French port of Le Havre, a police source said today.

The thieves are believed to have hitched a tractor unit to the trailer and driven off with it it in broad daylight on Monday, while it was in a loading area at the port in northwestern France waiting to be put on a ship, the source said.

An investigation is ongoing.

Owned by the luxury goods giant LVMH, Dom Perignon is one of the best known brands of the bubbly white wine produced in France’s Champagne region.
