DUBLIN CAN BE a pretty evocative place.
Not all of us are blessed with an eye for a photo. For some that gift becomes a profession. Then there are the likes of Dermot Kavanagh, who’s been documenting the capital’s streetscapes as a hobby for several years now.
His Instagram account, Irish Streets, “does exactly what it says on the tin” he says. The results are gorgeous.
“I’ve been doing photography for four years,” the 34-year-old civil servant tells TheJournal.ie.
I suppose what motivates me… I just love getting out and shooting, though I’ve become a little obsessive regarding what I shoot!
Seeing the different perspectives of Dublin is so rewarding. And the more you do it, the more you get into it and enjoy it, and the better you become.
He cites Glendalough, Co Wicklow, as his favourite place to shoot outside the metropolis. And in Dublin?
“You kind of find it hard not to go to places like Temple Bar, or Grand Canal Dock,” he says.
I’m partial to the inner city as well.
“Ultimately I just like going to places, shooting places, that I’ve never been to before.”
